Hi Tamra,
I've been meaning to write and say that my husband I saw the Basquiat film a few weekends ago and were absolutely blown away -- we're still talking about it. It wasn't at all my first introduction to the artist, but it was certainly the first time that I grasped quite who he was and what a tremendous loss his death was. Rich and I both walked out a little wet in the eye, and feeling like we'd experienced something really personal.

(And oddly, we saw the film Friday, and on Saturday went to Lee Quinones' 50th birthday party -- kind of a bittersweet juxtaposition.)

Again, I just wanted to say congratulations -- it's an extraordinary, important, beautiful film, and i'm so grateful that you made it, and shared your friend with all of us.

All my best,
Michelle

Hi Tamra,
It really is kind of lousy timing, coming so quickly after Labor Day... I'm sorry you won't be able to make it, but thanks so much for humoring the idea — and for the compliments, and ordering the book! I really appreciate it so much.

I hope the summer's treating you well, and you're having a wonderful time!
All best,
Michelle

Hi Tamra,

It was so nice to meet you at Nancy and Kamy's salon, over the winter. My husband and I have been watching — and loving — your videos ever since. (It must be so fun for the people who catch you filming on the street — I'm constantly in awe that you're a one-woman show!)

I have an odd request, I wondered if I could run by you... I'm having a bookstore launch party for my book, "The Gastronomy of Marriage," on September 9, at WORD in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I'm going to read a few pages, and there'll be sparkling wine and a cream puffs/profiteroles contest of sorts. (I make them in the book, and we thought it would be fun to include a recipe on the invitation; the person who brings the best plate of them wins a prize.)

In lieu of a more traditional Q&A after the reading, the bookstore suggested the idea of being "in conversation with" another food writer. I wondered if this is something you'd possibly be interested in doing with me. And of course, we'd make sure copies of your book were there as well.

If you're game for considering it, I'd be delighted to send you an early copy of "Gastronomy," which is about the year my husband, Rich, and I lived together during the year of our engagement, and me basically getting my head around the idea of marriage through the stories of us sitting down to dinner each night. We both love to eat, and to eat together, but in creating a home together — home being so tied to one's sense of identity — eating together became something more complicated. (Kamy wrote a blurb for it, and I'm sure she would be happy to offer you her thoughts as well.)

I know you're enormously busy, and I apologize for the imposition of even asking. It would be so fun and interesting to have you there, I just had to ask!

Warmest regards,
Michelle
