AROHO Reading Diary #4: An Unquenchable Thirst: Following Mother Teresa in Search of Love, Service and An Authentic Life by Mary Johnson

“Mother Teresa would have called my secrets blasphemy,” Mary Johnson writes in the introduction to her spiritual memoir An Unquenchable Thirst, “but I call them freedom. I even call them love.”

AROHO Reading Diary #2: Storm of Terror: A Hebron Mother’s Diary by June Leavitt

Posted on June 3, 2011 at 7:37pm 2 Comments

“My soul is yearning to be elsewhere, not rushing from Beer Sheba to Jerusalem under enemy fire, trying to make a living.

What would happen if I voluntarily gave up family life and went to live a life of contemplation on a quiet mountaintop somewhere? Would I lose the fear of losing them [my children], and thereby be free of fear?”—June Leavitt (p. 157)

Hi Tanya,

Thanks so much for responding!  I wrote you a very lengthy comment and poof!  I did something wrong.  Anyway, I have read The Girl Who Fell From The Sky and a collection of short stories entitled If I Loved You, I Would Tell You This.  I have written a memoir originally and received many rejections. Long tale of woe, but I have started a novel and am working my way through a plot line.

I have been frazzled lately, problems with my daughter's cat Stanley who is now (somehow) my cat...Stanley is no fool.  I will write more about the poetic aspect of my writing.  I am very pleased to have made a contact with a kindred soul.  Thanks for being so nice, Cheryl

What a lovely comment you left on my profile, Tania . . . I too am always on the search for the telling miniature!  (Probably why my novels are so short.)

Left a comment on your blog - not sure it went through so here it is (sorry if you got both):

Loved this entry too! You write so well with such passion and vivid imagery - a pleasure to read.

When my kids were younger (and even now when sick or depressed) they love/d reading Patricia C. Wrede's "Dealing with Dragon" series - a wonderful book about a princess who is so bored with etiquette lessons and wants to learn latin and magic. She runs away and becomes an apprentice to a mighty Dragon (female too). It is a wonderful book of strong, bright females. I recommend it!

Let me know what you think...

All the best,
Meryl

Dear Tania,

Thank you so much for your comment on my blog and for listing your favorite graphic novels and artists. As I wrote, I am just entering this enchanted world and really appreciate your guidance, support and comments. Thank you so much! I am on my way to savor (and comment) your Feral Mom blog - it looks so cool and inviting. I figured I'd write first to you here so I could spend more time and savor your blog!

Hope to see you again soon (with more insights/comments/advice) at my blog.

Thanks again and all the best,
