Let me first start by saying that I am family historian, one of those people who upon learning your last name will go home, open a database and see if we're related somehow. So this weekend, I received a death record and transcribed a labor contract between my Hathorn family and their former owners, also the Hathorn family.
This sparked an idea that took over the rest of the weekend and over 7000 words later, I have a project that will last into the next few weeks. So much for the…

Tomorrow will begin my fourth week of rewrites for my current WIP. I hope to finish it this weekend. I realized too late that getting set to write a short story takes a different set of tools than writing a longer piece. I wasn't prepared for my endeavor but I have learned some lessons about myself and my writing. For that I'm grateful.
For my next project which is now a shadow of an idea, I want to avoid the mistakes I've made with this one. I've decided to use a modified outlining…

Today is the day! Calendar Girl was officially released by Amira Press at 7:00 AM CST. Yes, I was watching the clock tick over on my computer when the website was updated.
While I have interviews scheduled over the next few weeks to talk about the book and my writing, I wanted to take a few moments right now to mark this occasion – my first published work!
I tell my kids that nothing should stop you from dreaming dreams. I’m glad I finally took my own advice, even if it took me…

I had a really fun interview with Alexandria Infante' on her website at www.poisoned.com. Alexandria is a writer in the paranormal genre with a multicultural slant and gives a voice to minority women as authors in this genre. She also promotes other writers and has an amazing list of guest bloggers.
I was one of those with the opportunity to answer a few questions about myself and my writing. And these weren't your run of the…

Meg Waite Clayton said… Teicha, We're delighted to have you in the novelist group! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. We save the wall for discussion, so please refrain from linking to blog posts there, but do add them in the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread.
And we do a live chat every Wednesday at 1EST; instructions on how to participate are in the "Our Water Cooler Wednesdays" box near the top of the group page.

I am honored that you chose to join my group Blooming Late!
I looked over the platform links that you have on your profile and am really very impressed with your work! I am in awe of the patience it takes especially to do geneological research. And the tangle with the names you are having I see is extrmelly hard! I wish you much luck. My family is largely Irish but I married a mexican man, in Az we are considered a biracial couple. So our son is immersed in the mexican heritage by living here and I have taught him as much as I can about my Irish side. When I was growing up I had no idea what I was because my grandparents wouldnt speak of it. When I forced the issue, they would say Scotts-Irish but really nothing. I didnt like that feeling of being "really nothing" and decided to do some digging and found out my grandfathers family grew up when that big Tammany Hall thing back east happened, where people didnt hire or allow the Irish to go in their establishments. Our family were the epitome of the poor Irish since everyone of them were only coal miners from lil up. My grandfather was pulled out of 6th grade to go work in the coal mine. Apparently those Irish were raised to not admit it and to be ashamed of it and if asked were taught to say they were Scotch-Irish because people left you alone when you said that. He had books from then that he kept like clues for me. One explained how we considered monkeys because we were so skinny that you could see the lines on either side of the mouth which meant we were animals. There were signs in windows back when he was little that said "No dogs or Irish". SO it makes me realise how much he must have gone through before he moved west with my grandma to work here in the copper mines. For my grandfathers sake I put the pride back in the McCreary name in how I raise my son. AND I am So glad for the people like you who are encouraging the sense of pride in heritage which I so dearly missed as a child.
And like you, there are many wonderful women in our group from all genres and levels of writing who are a real source of support, encouragement and inspiration for writing. I hope that you will be able to make your writing home with us!
We have many things going on in here and future plans for the group, take a look around our discussions and familiarise yourself with whats going on and participate where it will do you the most good. You dont have to follow any of the discussions unless you find one or two that will help encourage or inspire you. What I do ask of you though is if you would set your settings to recieve our emails so that when something is going on in the group you will be informed with everyone else.
We also have the pages section which can be found directly on the left of the group page. There you can add that great blog of yours, add your birthday, what you write etc. according to each page. But please be sure to add your Facebook/Twitter handle in the page for it right away so that our members can connect with you.
We are starting a wonderful project that is going to expand the promotional ability of this group exponentially and so as time allows we would really like you to "friend" every member in here as well as connect with all of them on FB and Twitter so we can all be connected with each other. Thank You!
I am glad you are here and WELCOME the the group!
