Who I am:
A lapsed social worker turned professional deckhand, I spend half of the year on the waters of Southeast Alaska, and the other half based out of Bellingham, Washington. After an embarrassing number of years of contemplation, I'm working on a memoir of what it means to be a tree hugging, yoga posing, bleeding heart liberal vegetarian in Alaska's commercial fishing industry. Connecting with a writing community has been a big hunger of mine, so I'm delighted to join SheWrites and learn from new friends. I launched a first-time blog, "Hooked," in March 2011, which can be viewed at http://nerkasalmon.wordpress.com/

Hi, Tele! Thanks for saying "Hello." Boy - do I wish I were in Sitka, or most anywhere in Alaska, right now. I love it there!

Hey Tele, Smoke was licking her chops at your Black Cod descriptions and recipe. She's not as tough as she sounds, basically she's just scared of people, dogs and other feral cats but don't tell Bear. Smoke may be a little hurt about her standoffishness though. Hope the boat cat gets a chance to drop a line soon.

Memoir writers are a difficult lot. Everything is so personal for us. Thanks for your comment. I would love to read your memoir.

Hi Tele! Thanks for friending me.  I love, love, love being part of the She Writes community and getting to know my fellow writers, including you.  I used to live in Seattle, and have happy memories of life in the Northwest. You sound like you live a fascinating, adventurous life. I look forward to visiting your blog, too. :)
