I think that is awesome your kids support you. Funny how you mention the dust balls rampaged. I started writing and a few times I noticed eyeballs starring at me. When I looked up I would get the question "are you making dinner?" Thanks for sharing.

My grown children or their friends read my books and yes, I think they do see me in a new light! My younger son had turned many of his friends on to my books and my daughter-in-law raffles them off in gift baskets for school fund-raising! so I guess…

Hi Cindy, 529 AD Wow! My hat's off to you. I am finding myself doing the same thing. I am so excited about book 2, that's when my characters begin to head west and the fun stuff begins. I am a travel bug at heart. I feel so strong about how the stor…

Thank you. You know I do not know why 1777 popped in there. I need the earlier time period to set the POV of the whole series. The books are very female character driven. Spreads over 150 years w/ 3 books (so far, could extend to more). Since our co…

My book is set in 529 AD with a lot of fictional politics built in but with some basis in actual events- as far as we know - I am struggling as well with how to show the larger context without flashbacks and I too seem to be gravitating to material…

The Journey of Historical Fiction

Writing historical fiction was something I knew I wanted to write, but wasn't quite sure what to expect. Wow! what a journey. Since I began this large project I have signed myself up for, I am now an advocate for these women of our history - that the history books forgot to mention ~err. The notes I have taken for a memoir of this journey, and a new found love of journal writing. I have always kept a journal, but now it has more meaning.
Something my children will read and see who I really am. N… Continue

Research and the New Light

In a recent post I mentioned I was stuck and had no clue what I was going to do with Anella.
I have outlined the book so many times I decided to give up. I am writing and letting the story do the work. This method is working much better for me.

Research gives me inspiration, new ideas and new characters to build on. The more I learn, the stronger they become. Women just rock - we always have!

I really wanted to stay away from Politics, I know our country was founded on Politics h… Continue

New plan for the Novel

Whew! I was bored and lost on where to take book one. I picked up a copy of the Writer's digest year book on Novel Writing and there I found an article on 'Where to Begin' by Nancy Kress and a second article on 'Researching Your Historical Novel' by Rosemarie Ostler. Thank you ladies you saved me!

Dived into some research for inspiration and I found it. I am excited again on book one. Yeah!

Restructure of the Novel, Do I Dare?

Writing historical fiction is a challenge of its own. I am in love with my project, but finding myself a little bored with Book 1 and seem to gravitate to book 2. I need book 1 to set the tone of the stories.

When that happens I read writing articles. I do not want to trash book 1 or go back and redo the entire project, so I have decided to restructure book 1 and maybe up the dates a little.

My book begins in 1777, a lot happened in that time period, not what I want. Politics are something I s… Continue

I thought the ads with the babies were pretty funny, if only for suggesting the mental age of the creaters of all the ads. I was particularly annoyed at the book club ad, for reasons I mean to blog about if I can only figure them out.
