An excellent essay and I can imagine it wasn't so easy to write. I want to respond to one comment below. Scars writes that "it seems police in Canada, themselves, are more interested in justice than American police." I am not Canadian…

I follow someone who I believe either writes for Green Prophet herself or is just obsessed with it because I see her posting articles from that site a lot. She is the founder and editor of a blog called Muslimness. Have you heard of them?

That Kiss | April Poetry Month

Posted on April 25, 2011 at 11:07pm 0 Comments

We each can remember moments in past relationships that grew us up somehow. After the longing and hurt fade, we are left appreciating how we changed and were moved by love. This poem reminds me of this, and how even after your last goodbye, you're still in each other's hearts somewhere.

Sitting side by side

I saw the smoke in your eyes…

Yearnings and Jealousy

Posted on November 18, 2010 at 12:15am 0 Comments

A friend shared a profound essay recently, and since then I’ve mulled over her insights, the kind that can only be described as contemplative, juicy, sensual, and rich; the sort of essay that I wish I’d written myself, had I thought of it first.

The gist was about the sex, and our cultural pre-occupation with all things sexual, including the ‘less sexy’ benefits of sex. When asked to identify the latter, she refuses. How absurd our focus is on the health benefits to the exclusion of… Continue

In honor of Poetry Month, here's my contribution to SheWrites

Hi all

I live far away from the city, and won't likely be able to leave poetry in anyone's pocket except that of my friends who read this.

One evening, I sat at a stop light, waiting for the light to turn green. Casually looking up to the sky, I was stunned by what I saw. Here is what that moment inspired.

Are you an eco-sexual?

Posted on April 5, 2010 at 2:10am 0 Comments

Just when you thought another sexual label couldn’t possibly be invented, those who are bringing the green movement into your bedroom have a new and sexy tag for you to wear: eco-sexual. With Earth Day quickly approaching, and the recent publication of a Eco-Sex: Go green between the sheets and make your love life sustainable (Stefanie Iris Weiss, March 2010), expect to hear more about how you can green your love life.

What exactly is… Continue
