Who I am:
I don't live in Paris, but pretend I do. I don't, however, pretend to write. I'm at it all the time. Here's more ... I've attended writing residencies at Villa Montalvo for the Arts, Hedgebrook, Soapstone and Vermont Studio Center. My agent valiantly tried selling my novel, “Parallel Crossings,” and I'm revising for another round to sympathetic editors. I've been awarded the Monticello Award for Fiction and a grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation. I served as Associate Fiction Editor on "Northwest Review." When I say, “I’ll see you in the funny papers,” I'm not kidding. Jan Eliot, creator of the syndicated cartoon "Stone Soup," is my best pal, and she "borrowed" a few things from me, like my name, my hair, my attitude, and my love of Lycra. Someday I'll get even.

When Writers Run Aground

31 August 2011

It’s been a tough few weeks for my fellow writers, friends and family. Short version: a sister who has separated from the love of her life; a close creative friend having a daughter post a blog about all of mom’s perceived failures as a mother; a dear friend and author of three fine novels who has had her editor reject the latest novel while all along saying she loved it; and our oldest granddaughter, well, for lack of… Continue

How lovely! How did I not see it? I am spending too much time buried in pages. But I suppose that is the good news!

Valerie, your words mean so much to me -- thank you thank you for your support, I just grew several inches. Your work and vision sound fascinating -- I want to hear more. Peace, Niki

Pleased for you to send along my comment to Stephanie Kallos.  I'm such a fan.

I haven't been on SheWrites much lately.  Been busy doing my own "thang" I suppose.  I'm curious as to what my SheWrites friends are up to, writing-wise, though.  Right now, I'm waiting to hear back from 2 agents who have requested my full manuscript of The Time Minders.  I'm still working on Kingdoms of Blood & Magic, but not as diligently as I should, since I've been querying/submitting for the TTM, doing scads of tutoring at my daughters' school and work for our church's youth group.  How about YOU?

Thank you for adding me as a friend. I look forward to getting to know you. I'll have to check out your work, not to mention the character based on you in "Stone Soup."

Thank you very much, Valerie!

I'll post  the link to you and your bed-books on my Author facebook page (if I can work out what to do now that they've modernized us...I sound 103, don't I? In facebooks years, like dog years, I probably am!).

All best,

Deborah

Thank you very much indeed for that, Valerie! I'm delighted - as much by the thoughtfulness of your report as the piles going down. It's strange being over here in Europe and not being able to tell at all how things are going. Cheers! : )

Thank you. I'm looking forward to learning more about everyone and growing in the craft of writing.
