- Who I am:
- Like some of her characters, Vicki has worked a wide variety of jobs including lifeguard, ride attendant at an amusement park; a hardware store, department store, book store, antique store clerk; administrative assistant in an international real estate firm; and a general “do anything gal” at a financial services firm. The list is…endless.
Born in Dallas, a graduate of Texas Tech, she is married to Handsome, has two big boys, an attention-demanding cat, and two adorable poopies.
Writing for several years, she has completed three manuscripts, written essays, and sold many short stories. She is a member of RWA, and the DARA, Elements, RWA Online, and RWA-WF chapters and Savvy Authors. In 2004 she joined DARA and has served in many capacities, including 2009 President. Recently, she was awarded the 2010 Robin Teer Memorial Service Award.
Most days begin with her hands set to the keyboard and thinking "What if??"

Rebecca Lane Beittel said… I haven't been on SheWrites much lately. Been busy doing my own "thang" I suppose. I'm curious as to what my SheWrites friends are up to, writing-wise, though. Right now, I'm waiting to hear back from 2 agents who have requested my full manuscript of The Time Minders. I'm still working on Kingdoms of Blood & Magic, but not as diligently as I should, since I've been querying/submitting for the TTM, doing scads of tutoring at my daughters' school and work for our church's youth group. Thank you! I was wondering if Batman was your real last name or a nom de plume. Either way is cool, by the way, but I imagine if it is your real last name you probably have a lot of people humming the Batman theme song around you when they see you coming.

There are so many places for folks to promote books online, and so few venues for writers to connect, and I really value She Writes for that connection - getting to know other writers and helping each other (help and support that was indispensible to me before and as I was getting published, and still is). Because of that, I've held to a policy since I joined of accepting friendships only from people who don't use book jacket covers or other promotional materials as their "face" here. I do understand the desire to have folks know that you have a book they might buy - please believe me on this. I certainly keep the jackets of my novels up on my homepage. But I like to think we are here for something different, and nearly every one of the wonderful writers here – including many award winning ones – do use personal photos. If you decide to change your profile photo, I would be delighted to count you as a friend.
