"I did! at first. Then, I got to where I didn't worry so much because most contests are electronic now and we all know how sending and formatting, etc. can play wonky with docs.
It'll be all right. lol"
Discovering Reading Magic Many years ago, I'd browsed my local Half Price Books and picked up a book to read: Maeve Binchy's Light a Penny Candle. I'd seen the movie, Circle of Friends, with Chris O'Donnell and Minnie Driver, and loved it. But HPB didn't have a copy of that one for sale. Instead, I picked up Light a…See More
"I wish I had magic words for you. I have a holiday story and am stuck at the ending. So I set it aside and worked on other things. Then, started at the beginning, looking at every word, phrase, sentence to make it the best. Hopefully, by the…"
"I write funny stuff. It just escapes. So here's my funny story. #1 son comes home after work and shows me the engagement ring he bought for the girlfriend of four years. I just stared and stared. He said, "Okay?" I said, "Great.…"
I want to encourage women to submit to humor venues. I urge you; I implore you. Let’s start a revolution and change the world’s mind about who’s funny. Your heart will swell with accomplishment and your breasts will become larger. This I promise.
Like some of her characters, Vicki has worked a wide variety of jobs including lifeguard, ride attendant at an amusement park; a hardware store, department store, book store, antique store clerk; administrative assistant in an international real estate firm; and a general “do anything gal” at a financial services firm. The list is…endless.
Writing for several years, she has completed three manuscripts, written essays, and sold many short stories to True Romance, True Love, True Confessions, Noble Romance Publishing, MuseitUp Publishing and has indie published two collections. She is a member of RWA, and the DARA, Elements, RWA Online, and RWA-WF chapters and Savvy Authors. In 2004 she joined DARA and has served in many capacities, including 2009 President. Most days begin with her hands set to the keyboard and thinking "What if??"

I haven't been on SheWrites much lately. Been busy doing my own "thang" I suppose. I'm curious as to what my SheWrites friends are up to, writing-wise, though. Right now, I'm waiting to hear back from 2 agents who have requested my full manuscript of The Time Minders. I'm still working on Kingdoms of Blood & Magic, but not as diligently as I should, since I've been querying/submitting for the TTM, doing scads of tutoring at my daughters' school and work for our church's youth group. How about YOU?
Thank you! I was wondering if Batman was your real last name or a nom de plume. Either way is cool, by the way, but I imagine if it is your real last name you probably have a lot of people humming the Batman theme song around you when they see you coming.
I want to thank you for joining my group Blooming Late!
You have quite a body of work and also have a wonderfully profession looking blog with brilliant writing!
There are many things we offer here at Blooming Late that you might be interested in so please make sure to view all the discussions and see all the great activity.
Please take some time to introduce yourself to the group in our Kicking It Off discussion if you havent already and please make sure you list your Blog and your books in the pages section to the left of the group main page so everyone can find you and your books!
Thank you for already being in the group to a degree and commenting, we look forward to hearing more from you and I am sure you have already noticed that we have a unique group of great women who are a support, encouragement and inspiration for your writing.
Vicki, Thanks for your friend request, and I would love to be friends. There are so many places for folks to promote books online, and so few venues for writers to connect, and I really value She Writes for that connection - getting to know other writers and helping each other (help and support that was indispensible to me before and as I was getting published, and still is). Because of that, I've held to a policy since I joined of accepting friendships only from people who don't use book jacket covers or other promotional materials as their "face" here. I do understand the desire to have folks know that you have a book they might buy - please believe me on this. I certainly keep the jackets of my novels up on my homepage. But I like to think we are here for something different, and nearly every one of the wonderful writers here – including many award winning ones – do use personal photos. If you decide to change your profile photo, I would be delighted to count you as a friend.
Glad to have you in the novelist group! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. And we do a live chat every Wednesday; hope you can join us for that!
