Call for Submissions: Military Repeal Day - September 20th, 2011 - When DADT Became History

Seeking personal accounts of actions or experiences of serving LGBT military members and their families on 20 September 2011, date of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT) repeal. Did you take part in a celebration, make a point of coming out to those you work with, do a small yet significant or symbolic action (like update your DD 93 and change ‘friend’ to ‘spouse’) that marked the change from forced in the closest to finally able to be yourself and true about those who are your family? The Fremont School Board has denied the request deciding the book is not "appropriate" for students.Upon researching this, discovered that a loophole exists. If the book is not purchased by the district, the book can be taught with parent approval.Help send Bastard to school. Visit…See More

SFWC 2011

Another outstanding San Francisco Writers Conference. Reprised the workshop on critique skills, this year with Tanya Egan as my co-facilitator. Tanya rocked! Had great information about critique groups. Had a terrific time hanging out with the poets, making new friends, helping conference rookies and came home with nuggets of encouragement from a few established authors as well. SFWC is the conference to attend if you want to know about the business of authorship.

Effective writing critique skills

This year I will once again discuss effective writer critique skills and practice both on the page and as part of a writing group at the San Francisco Writers Conference 18-20 FEB in San Francisco. If you missed the discussion last year, make a note to attend the workshop on Sunday at this year's conference. Some points that will be addressed:- Why the red pen crushes critique communication- Honest feedback that won't crush the emerging writer's spirit- What to say when you don't know what to…See More

Welcome to She Writes, Victoria. Hope you’ll enjoy the conversation here. You might enjoy joining us in the big fiction group or the new “Novelists – Struggling or Not” group (if you write the longer stuff, or think you might like to). And there's a SF Bay Area writers group too. Feel free to ping me if you have any questions as you make your way around the site. And enjoy!

Best,
