Seeing With New Eyes

My friend Bonnie sent me a Happy Birthday wish last week, it was definitely a part of what I hope to accomplish in this Journey...she wrote,"Today begins one of the most wonderful years you have ever had. Oh the things you will see and do, experience and remember....God has great plans for you."I believe Bonnie's insight into my future, but as I stepped wholeheartedly into my year of discovery I wonder why it is so hard to embrace who I really am with nothing held back? This week I read about a…See More

TO NASHVILLE WITH LOVE

My heart aches for Nashville. The Cumberland River crested at its highest level in over 80 years. People drowned. Billions of dollars in damage occurred. Loss is everywhere...people, homes, businesses, pets. This flood was the largest disaster to hit Mid Tennessee since the Civil War. I mourn the damage to a historical treasure. I mourn the loss of lives. I have family and friends there...I thank God they are safe. All this destruction brought back memories of Katrina hitting the Gulf Coast. To…See More

My Journey in Black & White

Posted on April 28, 2010 at 4:30pm 5 Comments

I could deny the symptoms no longer and made the appointment. Up until the last few months I had not been sick for ten years or more. But something had happened to compromise my immune system and the consequences were sobering.

I would be 64 soon, my mother had died with breast cancer at my age. In fact all of my immediate family had died near my age or earlier. The possibility of my following suit was a major medical reality.

So I did all the test...scans...x-rays...lab… Continue

Wanda,

As a Nashvillian living amid the chaos and devastation I wanted to thank you for your blog post and your positive thoughts for those of us in Nashville. I have been unable to do much on She Writes since I was evacuated on Sunday night and now only have internet when I am able to go out somewhere to get it. But I am fortunate, I got out safely, my housemate got out as well as did our three dogs. The rest I keep telling myself is just stuff and can be replaced. My daughter thankfully remained safe throughout and was able to come "rescue" me once evacuated. It is however, nice to know that others recognize what happened here as the national news has been sorely lacking and many don't realize the extent of the devastation here.

Best,
Julie Jeffs

Hi Wanda, Thanks for the encouragement. I noticed that you joined SW on Monday. "WELCOME!", and "Happy Belated Birthday". Your blog post touched me in a most profound way because I just got through surgery and radiation treatments for breast cancer. I was dignosed on March 3rd, and even though my prognosis is excellent, I can truly identify with all the "wants" that you listed. But with all the "wants" still hovering, I am finding that I just want to "be". No traveling, good deeds, or discoveries. I just want to "be". It's weird and I don't think I can even fully explain what I mean. But, that's it, just "be". I'm working on my next blog post which will cover a little of the emotional aspect in my reaction to my diagnosis and treatment. So many emotions went through me that I really have to pinpoint which were paramount to my well-being. I have a lot of poetry coming out of this experience, and just reading them is giving me an insight into this "be" thing that I am feeling. I hope all your wants prove to be what you truly need. God Bless. - Jean
