My first book of poems is coming out in a couple of weeks with Plain View Press; it'll be on their table at AWP. I thought I'd start my She Writes blog with the blurbage being printed on the back cover. Thanks again to Tim, Ana and Amy. I especially like Ana's recognition that my poetics are "deeply feminine," which Amy also gives a nod to with the bit about me wiping down landscapes. My perspective is one of a housewife and mother…See More
"Wendy, Thank you for reading my book, and your kind remarks. I am happy you enjoyed it. And congratulations on the recent publications! I will look them up--looking forward, JoAnn"

Yes, right now I'm editing (and detesting commas.) April 1 is a deadline for me, so I think after that I'll be able to relax, in a way. At least not flounder around inside the narrative of a book I've read a hundred times. I don't care how good a book is. Once you've read it a hundred times, and the hundred-and-first time is to interrogate every comma you see, the love starts to cool a little!

If you don't mind me asking, what part of the North Country are you in? We're moving back east in the fall to an area just southwest of Ithaca on the NY/PA border.. I'll be glad to be close enough to at least take the kids up to the Adirondacks for a week or so at a time and maybe catch Winter Carnival.
as for the question you are posing 'what feminist poetry' means...I dunno, still working on that one. Some feminist poetry leaves much to be considered as to how it defines itself as feminist...then again, there may be as many definitions of 'feminist' as there are sands in the desert...
:) Thank you. I was talking to one of my committee members yesterday about how, I read many a political thinker who just regurgitates what Plato has written, which is disappointing when I'm looking for a better idea, and an ideal that is feasible. Christian discourse, contemporary critics of imperialism...borrow from the model he has used in Republic. His ideal, funny enough, demonstrates his lack of faith in humanity, as he argues for how humans should best exist.
Hi Wendy:
Mine are in school again, too. Busy week--I drop Jon off in Monterey (about 3 hours each way) for rehearsals, go to LA for our California Council for the Humanities Board, back home and to attend the Monterey Jazz Festival. Jon performs on Sunday afternoon with Wynton Marsalis as their special guest. Maybe I'll write some jazz inspired poems when I return!
