Agents and editors look for any reason to toss a manuscript into the rejection pile, so it is crucial to make a good impression in the first five pages. Mistakes include starting the story in the wrong place, or using an action scene that serves no purpose. We will do close readings of first chapters of published books to determine what makes them successful. We’ll also analyze the first five pages of students’ novels to see what works and what doesn’t. You will learn techniques that you’ll be…See More

“A delightful novel about love, identity, and what it means to be adrift in a strange land. This story of a search has an Alice in Wonderland vibe; when Celeste climbs down the rabbit hole, one can't help but follow along.”

Hi Wendy,
I wonder if you'd like to join the Diane Middlebrook Women Writers' salon. We are starting our sixth year in San Francisco on Sunday, Jan. 17, 3-6, with a presentation by Mary Pols. Her memoir, "Accidentally on Purpose," has been adapted to TV in sitcom form and can be seen Mondays at 8:30 on CBS, channel 5. Let us know if these ad hoc salons (about 4 times per year) could work into your schedule. And congratulations again on your new novel!
Hi Wendy! So glad to find you on SheWrites! Looking forward to your updates and keeping in touch! Boo Publication is fine. I'm working on mostly blog books lately. But I'm trying to create my own base on personal essays I've written in the past. Take care and hope to see you in one of the writer events. Congratulations again on 'Love in Translation'!

Thanks, Wendy. Still trying to figure out the best places to be.
Need to focus on my wip so am going underground for a bit. :)
I can't believe you wrote a book called "Love in Translation" and in my comment to you I said the meaning must've been "lost in translation"!!! I had no idea!! Hilarious! I don't know what "midori" you're referring to but one of my favorite drinks is a Midori Sour!! Yummers!! LOL!! Is it sold online?? I have to get it!! By the by...please let me know if/when you'll be promoting the new book in LA. I'd love to come out & support! Smooches........Stayce (*.*)
Thanks, Wendy! I think it IS intriguing -- and the NY Times Review of Books called it a notable book of the year. Can I persuade you to get your library to get a copy? Let me know what you think if you read it -- I hope you like it. And I look forward to yours, as well.
Cheers,
Gillian
I shared a post titled "The Birth of the Diversity Blogs" today. I wanted to share about the various cultures and peoples of the world and I figured that I should make that the theme of my blog. :D Enjoy!
