Falling Off: Negotiating with The Horse

From what I remember, the air was as crisp ast the satisfying crack of a rice cracker breaking cleanly in half. My eight year old fingers clutched each other eagerly - that is when they weren't galloping on the side of the rear passenger door of my parents' lime green Citroen, or as I liked to call it because it…See More

Living in Truth

This is dedicated to all the amazing women... ---- Her voice paced the room nervously singing a sad melody. Her eyes, moist with conviction and open in their gentle vulnerability searched for a glance of understanding, a pittance of legitimacy, in her decision As she spoke, the wind peeked in through the window of the outward facing office, and circled her in a ring of protection. Her sorrow, bubbling up from her chest, culminating in a silent guttural howl supported by her truth. She turned…See More

I remember feeling.I remember laughter.I remember crying when I was sad.I remember rain.I remember acid on my skin.I remember clouds shining on the surface of a river. I remember scratches.I remember bleeding.I remember sinking, thinking - useless.I remember strength.I remember focus.I remember knowing what it's like to be raw.I remember dying.I remember falling.I remember my heart exploding - sacrifice.I know feeling.I know laughter.I know to cry when I am sad.I know rain.I know acid on my…See More

Retrograde Soul Amnesia

For me, this retrograde period,  but especially the last week, has been one of struggle, soul searching, and coming to a final, but very painful decision. I almost feel as though I have pushed through a layer of myself that had died - and had rested painfully in a state of purgatory between life and absolution.…See More

IT IS WHAT IT IS...OR IS IT?

I have a dresser by my bed whose drawers are stuffed to the brim with penned duodenal purges.  Journals, loose papers, napkins, receipts...endless planes where I have phlebotomized my soul through my words lie stacked, crumpled, shoved and stifled within its darkened and twisted abdominals. Even more so lie dormant in endless sketchbooks, notebooks, idea pads and outlines under my bed, in suitcases and bags and bottlenecked in my veins and my sinuses. In my constant search for home, I have…See More

Oh Come On, You Know I Love Your Writing!

Those words have been haunting me all day. They're not particularly harrowing words on their own, in fact, they are quite the contrary - affirming, validating, smile making. I spend hours and hours and hours and years of my life pouring my soul, my spirit, my skin, my blood and my tears (sometimes literally) into my writing. It is my release, it is the way that I pick at the layers - sometimes flaky, buttery, and delicious - but often times grimy, scabbed over, and moist (yes I went there) -…See More

Boxing! My Healing...

My hair is in my eyes. The sweaty strands that have fallen out of the elastic in my hair bounce, bounce along as I practice my footwork around the heavy bag. I trip up on my stance – my right foot has stepped behind my left, leaving me unstable. Maybe she didn't see... “It's okay, don't worry, just correct it.” Vanessa…See More

How I wear you

My eyes are down when I set out to see you.I see my path ere, watching each step eke forthAcid gurgles at my throat -do  reach, connectTo you - from you, it is you.Even life is a footstep closer to the closing door, Yet, my heart is shrouded in bitter fog. I rattle my drinking up on the bars, thecage that I live in breathes in brittle air, And yet grows strong from my delirium. Parched skin peels from my throat, as I still watch you, taking over You wake me with your tempting voice, yet stifle…See More

Take My Breath, Away

Had I posted this yesterday, it would have engrossed your senses in a newly dipped in euphoria, a myriad of evocative images stemming from my learning to tap into my breath. It occurred to me, in part by being reminded repeatedly to breathe during exercises, to bring it up, talk about it, perhaps tend to it.Let's talk about your breath. My breath?Let's tend to it....thus began a day that evoked one of the deeper questions that arise within a journey of growth and transformation:Is it actually…See More

I added your blog to my blogroll on my blog.  (I'm still new at blogging.) I've kept a personal journal since forever (1976) but I use a different writing voice when I know no one else will see it.  Blogging has been fun and a good exercise to stretch my writing muscles.

Yali, I just opened the door to the novelist group for you - welcome! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. And we do a live chat every Wednesday; hope you can join us for that!
