No, don't give up! It's all so subjective, the editors admit it! And the economy makes it hard. But keep putting yourself out there and doing your absolute best work! Sooner or later, if you have something of quality, it will be accepted somewhere. You can always publish in the online mags for starters. I'm not sure what state you're in exactly, but....
