What I learned about writing in 2009

What I learned about writing in 2009 is books sell by word of mouth, and that you're responsible for your own publicity, no matter how good your publicist is (or if you have one at all.) Know your reading material, practice it. Plant a question in the audience for Q&A to get the ball rolling. Every time you travel, call the bookstores there to see if they have your book, and come by to sign stock. Make friends with bookstore owners. Write thank you notes. And blog, blog, blog. Toot your own…See More

Give me a few available dates and time at my personal e-mail gingerb@gingerbcollins.com.

Good luck at tomorrow's event. Sell lots of books!

Jessica,

My AWC friends give your rave reviews for your presentation at the October meeting. Hope it was good for you, too. George was especially impressed by your personal note after the event. Good manners . . . those little touches that make all the difference!

Just got my latest E-Quill and see you are speaking at the AWC October meeting. I'm a long-time member and was Program Chair and Board member a few years back, when we were a group of 40 meeting in a room at the library. Will this be your first visit to the club? There are over 500 members now - a wide variety of writers and activities to educate and inform. It's the only part of Atlanta I miss during our summer seasons in Canada.

I won't be back until the November meeting, but maybe I'll see you there? Be sure and give Clay Ramsay and George Weinstein my best. They are great guys and have worked hard to build the club into the dynamic organization it is today.

Ah, you've been on my "blob!" I haven't dragged the thing upstairs yet, but I got the idea visiting a wonderful artist in Ohio last month, who used a typewriter for some book art. Thanks for the props about the cover art for Invisible Sisters. The publisher and their art director did a stunning, heartbreaking job. And the girl (who is stock art, btw) looks like I did at that age.

I look forward to catching up on your sites and learning about your work, too!

Good luck using the typewriter, Jessica! I have an oldie but a goodie that I sometimes dust off when I feel like writing retro-style. It's a lot of work, though, on the fingers!

Great cover art for Invisible Sisters, by the way. Love the b&w.

Welcome to shewrites.com! I look forward to getting to know more about you and your work.
