(I guess not many at Omega come from so far away, but I used to live in NYC for a long time so it was a good excuse to come back and visit.) I meant to tell you that I just finished H&E - what an incredible story. I loved especially your depiction of your mother and your relationship with her. Really beautifully done. I may take you up on your offer to keep in touch now and then - I seem to careen from complete confidence about this book to the deepest despair/disgust, often in the same day. :-) And good luck with your next project - I loved the proposed title, btw!

I'll talk to Rich about Woodstock — I'd LOVE to visit, thank you! (This is the house with the super cool kitchen cabinet pulls, yes?)

Definitely talk soon,
Michelle

Hi Martha!
I'm so glad to find you here! My husband, Richard Chang, enjoyed meeting you and Steve so much (for the article in the NYT), and I've been meaning to invite you to the NY salon I attend, and which this site grew from —I was actually just about to email and tell you about She Writes...

Thanks so much for sending Rich home with the copy of your book. I read it instantly, and just loved it. Your storytelling, and the tone, felt so effortless — particularly as I was struggling with those things in my own book.

It'll be out in September, and Kamy Wicoff, one of the She Writes organizers, read it and blurbed it, and said afterward that she was jealous that i have a mom I learned to cook from. My first thought when she said that was of "Hats & Eyeglasses" and how I'd felt so jealous of your relationship with your mother. My mom is more a monologue giver than a conversationalist... I loved that your mom was a peer to you, and I found your relationship so beautiful. I completely cried at the part in the book where she passes away — I'm genuinely so sorry for your loss...

Again, the book was wonderful, and when the NY salon starts back up in the fall, I hope I have a chance to finally meet you. Short of that, if you two are ever in the city and happy for some dinner company, just give us a shout.

All best,
Michelle

ps: After I read Hats..., i'd tried to leave a review on Amazon, but for some reason couldn't -- maybe b/c it hadn't come out yet? I'll give it another try soon.
