Profile Information

Who I am:
My journey consists of stray puzzle pieces wedged together, providing an inter-locking connection to the person I am today. Born number three out of seven within a nine-year span, posed its own set of challenges. My best laid plan of action was to withdraw. That’s when my pen, paper and imagination became my most intimate friends.

It wasn’t till I attended an all-girl high school, taught by a flock of nuns, and filled with a kaleidoscope of females, that my life began to pivot. Girls will be girls and our mission was to break the rules, dodge detention, lie if we must, repent later, and laugh till we peed in our pants.

The years that followed were a horse of a different color. I taught school, experienced all the anguish that goes hand in hand with divorced parents, changed my career to real estate then reverted back to teaching, got married, lived overseas, raised three wonderful children, created several small business ventures, suited up and showed up at Nar-Anon and Al-Anon meetings, lost myself, got divorced, found parts of myself, returned to the workforce, dove into the abyss of family tragedies, moved to another state to reinvent myself again and continued to search for the lost pieces.

Always thirsting for spiritual knowledge I explored a variety of venues during my down time - Self-Realization Fellowship, Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, Reike, Crystal Resonance, and Shamanism. Due to the economy my Community Relations position in the non-profit sector, dealing with sexually abused and poverty stricken families, was cut. Like the magician in tarot, I packed up all my tools and headed south to Charleston, South Carolina, to create the new me.

Life has turned full circle and here I am today with my pen, paper, and imagination writing once again, only my stories are richer, and more robust. The depth and breadth of who I am is enhanced by those intricate puzzle pieces of the past, but who I am becoming is still being defined and created.

I wrote and illustrated my first self-published book BELIEVE in January, 2010, and am currently in the throes of writing my second book. My blessed journey isn’t over… it has just begun.

It's a simple tale which inspires us to open our hearts to healing the pain and emptiness left by our departed loved ones; and brings us face-to-face with our own doubts and fears, helping us rise above with faith and hope.

Thanks for the friend request - I have not mastered multi-tasking between Twitter,FB, my blog and SheWrites. Unfortunately, SheWrites gets the short end of the stick. Feel free to contact me through Twitter, I'm much better about responding that way.

Hi Pattie:  Thanks for your friend request, and sorry it took me a while to respond.  I never got an email about it and I just came to the site for another reason and saw that you had contacted me in Jan!  Anyway, really glad you reached out, and looking forward to staying connected!

Pattie, I wrote a book called Bringing Up Ziggy: What Raising a Helping Hands Monkey Taught Me About Love, Commitment and Sacrifice. Ziggy is now a helper/companion for a quadriplegic. I had her from 5 weeks old to 13 years. It was published by Renaissance Press, now St. Martin's in 1999. It is a out of print (I have the rights back) and is a classic among primate owners (in other words, I have a lot of monkeys for friends). I couldn't find you on Facebook, you need to find me.

Loved your profile info! Especially the nun-run all-girl school! That in itself would make a wonderful book. I welcome you to SheWrites and encourage you to continue writing. I have a feeling something good is going to appear on the pages of a book from you. So happy to be your friend!  Joyce

I hear ya.  I live vicariously through the "submissions of others" and my friend (also on SW, Melissa Sweinhagen) submitted a full MS (YA fiction).  We both discussed it every day, still do pretty much and I was so excited for her when she would get a request to see some chapters or in some cases the full MS.  Although no offers have rolled in, it is SOOO exciting!!  I would completely collapse and as you say "cry happy tears and fall to my knees!!" absolutely.. my family would think I lost my mind...

I continue to search out those moments to explore, work through and itemize my approach to my book.  Let us just say I do "a lot of thinking that if through osmosis, became writing.. I would have about 276 pages by now"   hhhmmmm.. so scary.. I am such a panicky "writeiquer".. my new word.  It means as I write I find myself critiquing as I go along instead of letting it just flow out..  Gotta stop that..

Hey Pattie,  I am revvvvving the engines and seeking soulful inspiration from Hemingway's ghost to start my book.  I have only gotten so far as to write a short story which could in a sense be a chapter or introduction and submitted it to a contest for Glamour.  I wont know (if I know anything) until after February 1 of this year.  Once that day comes.then goes I will release and keep plugging away.  Have you submitted?  Proposals done? Agent discovered?  Or still working?
