Stewart novel with aliteracy query letter

I decided to keep that fabulous first graph you guys got me to,but i decide to try to jump into the idea that this is a literary novel (where plot is less important than character and how it is written)and write a query "literarily."Here's what I hope is basically my last query letter draft :Dear whoever,I have recently completed an epic literary novel, "THE COLOR OF SAFETY," which explores racism and internalized bigotry through the last century via one South Central Los Angeles near-mansion…See More

Anybody interested in a reading exchange?

We're all swamped, I know that. I'm hoping to be ready for a next full read very soon. These are tough to set up. They involve a ton of time and they have to be the right exchange--you know, if you're writing something direct and your partner's stuff is oblique, you can't help them very much. Or if they're all about word flow and you need help with structure, etc. It can take a long time and a lot of false starts to find someone similar enough in style and with enough critiquing depth, and it…See More

Hair

I'm reposting this from my own blog, threekindsofpie.blogspot.com, simply because it was so much fun.

Did anybody see that little Thursday styles piece in the New York Times about more

women of color going au natural and haunting the websites that are

helping with au natural hair care? Does anybody hang out at these

websites? Are they going to turn into a…

The Value of Stereotypes

Posted on May 30, 2011 at 1:43pm 0 Comments

I have recently been party to a discussion about stereotypes, which got me thinking how valuable they are. For people who don't have time to think things through, they are a short-cut that makes the world far more tidy.  And please don't think that I'm putting myself above the

crowd. I'm sure that there are people that I stereotype. After all, I

am busy, too

Now, I'm a white (glow-in-the-dark white) Jewish person. My husband, too, is Jewish and white, though nearly quite so…

Hi Sara, I wasn't sure if you intended for me to look for it but I was curious about the address of the critique group you mentioned. Also, my stance on the discussion topic isn't anything that's really against you in particular--I'm just at the end of my rope for people trying to explain things to me that I feel I've shown I understand, which I get a lot of, particularly from older women.

I am right behind you Sister. I waiting for my Kids Dad to pick them up now.  He hasn't had them in 2 weeks.  He & the new Mrs Not Me moved, so they had to pack, move and unpack with kids underfoot. LOL! I couldn't get that luxury if I moved... Oh well.  So I am plotting my evening all to myself!

Did I mention a bottle of white wine is included in my evening paired with a FAB meal! Yes I am in need of being off the mommy clock!

Enjoy the Summer.  There is enough time for serious discussion later.  And if not, well so what! Ha ha ha!

Sara, I just opened the door to the novelist group for you - welcome! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. And we do a live chat every Wednesday; hope you can join us for that!

Thanks, Sara and for the friendship.

Well, I've not been to Minnesota but on the internet, you can be anywhere, depending on who you're conversing with. I'm in GA. Consider me the southern blurter, so I know it's hard to zip it sometimes. I'm going to deliberate on your last post before responding. Plus, I need to eat. It's noon here and I need to get something that will sustain me thru the rest of the day.
