I teach in the CAS writing program, which is teaching mostly freshman and sophomores, though I am able to teach my own materials and have tried to gear the class as much as possible toward fiction craft issues (the class is actually called The Craft of Fiction). It isn't, however, a creative writing class. I've always said that I'd have to win a Pulitzer to teach in the Creative Writing program. I don't think that program actually even does nonfiction, just fiction and poetry. You might check with the communications or journalism departments for nonfiction.

Hi Sue,

I'm working on getting back to work writing, and very excited to reconnect with other writers. I've been busy launching and running an environmental education nonprofit, which I hope will "buy" me more time to write--my youngest son is in kindergarten now. I have a family story I'm working on about my great-grandmother who traveled solo around the world in the 1960s and 1970s--88 countries in 26 years...and I have a sea story or two...would love to see you.

I'm very excited about your book!

Hi, Susan,

Thanks for your interest. It's going to be a monthly gathering of writers of all genres. We're going to open with a writing-prompt exercise (inviting volunteers to share, if willing), then give participants a little time to commiserate about and trouble-shoot any writing obstacles they might be encountering. We'll take a short break (refreshments!) and then spend one hour doing three separate critiques (20 minutes each) of participants' work (this may change to two or one, depending on how it goes). We're going to have a sign-up sheet for future dates, but if you'd like to bring something to the first one to read aloud and hear feedback, please do! Also, we're going to do a quarterly Author Series, inviting authors to lead a seminar or clinic on a particular topic (of their choosing), probably on a weekend day. Perhaps you might be interested in doing one?? Please let me know if you have other questions. The address is 157 Old Main Street in Marshfield Hills, off Rt. 3A, at the GAR Hall. The first Writers Workshop will be on September 15, 7-9 p.m.
Thanks again,
Jen

Hi, Susan,
I have written about a variety of topics for The Boston Globe as well as other newspapers I've worked for - full-time primarily - during the last 22 years. My main gig for newspapers was writing about K-12 and higher education issues. But I also have written many personal essays about grief and faith, and some about parenting. Most recently, I wrote two classical music stories for the Globe - one on James Galway, and another about a woodwind quintet. And, I have a travel piece coming out in late August about seeing Brewster (on the Cape) through author/historical novelist Sally Gunning's eyes.

Hi Susan -

Yes, I'm in Boston - Allston/Brighton. I was glad to see that someone started this group!

I'm really more an aspiring writer than a "writer" just yet... but I'm learning and working on it. I'm also looking for work in publishing, something entry-level, to get to know the industry. I'm excited to learn from others on SheWrites, and hopefully connect with some people in this group!

Hi Susan,

Yes, I am part of the original and ongoing Council and have nothing but love in my heart for Jenna, fellow-group members, and Grub Street.

Seems like our books are coming out at the same time. Perhaps we should start a Jan 2010 launch group. I haven't yet truly explored this site (Kathy lured me here!) but it seems to have great possibility.

Publicity? Don't really know the whole story yet--probably meeting w/publicists from SM at the end of the month. Meanwhile, have signed up with free-lance publicist. Don't know what the method of how to private message is here (is there one?) but you can email me at randysusanmeyers@me.com and maybe we can talk publicity for January strategies!
