So excited

So excited that I feel like a kid at Christmas. One of my dear She Write sisters said that I had gained another ten years since writing the book, which would put me in my fifties again (so maybe if I write two more I can see thirty once more..ha,ha,ha) so ladies I…

My Possible Life

“I'm here to be me, which is taking a great deal longer than I had hoped.”    ― Anne Lamott, Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith

Something is happening.  It’s something big.  There are moments I want to run out into the street and scream to the world around me, “Look.  I figured it out.  I know what I am supposed to be doing with this life of mine.  Don’t you want me to tell you about it?”  Then there are the moments when the real world crashes in and says, “You can’t…

A Plesent Surpise

Two days ago my friend who is a Marine, messaged me and we spent two hours talking.

Since he joined the Marines I usually get a quick one line message and if I’m lucky a second one line message, maybe every four to six weeks.

I miss the long conversations we used to have, but fully understand he’s busy these days. Since we’re both writers, we have a…

Spence ~ "Pull Me In"

The lead singer of Spence reached out to me on facebook asking me to check out his bands page. I did and I 'liked' it because I really did like it. I then pointed him in the direction of my blog, he started following it and we've continued being friends on-line ever since. If you guys enjoy this song, please find Spence on facebook and click the 'like'… Continue

Aphrodite

{I wrote this piece last year, when my best friend, Elle, and I were simultaneously going through a tough semester.}

She was Aphrodite, to me.

Though even to outsiders, she was ethereal. Eyes followed her wherever she went because she floated, and she glowed. She was kind, intelligent, talented, beautiful, and effortlessly sensual. Human was too mortal a term for all that Aphrodite was.

And I loved her.

It was inevitable. Strangers were…

Please Don't Leave Me

Being that I am still in the land of the living at this current moment, I have to live with the mistakes I’ve made these past few days.

You know, like, I don’t know, ceremoniously self-destructing every relationship but, like, two.

In the moment, I couldn’t give you a good reason. I just felt this overwhelming desire to purge everyone from my life. It happens often. I don’t trust that relationships will last long, and so being that I feel that there will be an inevitable…

I'm Not Crazy; I'm Just a Little Unwell

Today was my birthday.

I’ve hated my birthday since I was a little girl. For one, my parents don’t celebrate holidays very enthusiastically. Also, I have spent most of my life without friends due to the constant moves and my general lack of social skills. I spend all year being anxious about it, secretly hoping it goes amazingly, and then not being at all surprised when the entirety of the world forgets (although now, with Facebook, people can pretend like they remembered)

Only…

Laugh at Yourself, Laugh at Life

Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can; all of them make me laugh ~ W. H. Auden

A few days ago I went to visit my ex-mother-in-law,…

As the Actress Said to the Bishop...: "It's hot and crazy in the kitchen..."

The casting breakdown for Thursday’s audition read: ‘male or female, a chef, someone people would be a bit scared of but with a warm side as well... Must have characterful face.’ So I thought: Monica (from Friends). (Although I’m far closer in type to Monica than I could ever hope to be of the boys'…

Connecting With Loved Ones Who Have Passed

As I stated in my January 16th article, “Is There Life After Life,” for many years I’ve had a curiosity about the infinitive properties of life. This curiosity has lead me to fill my personal library with books written by noted, and in some cases scientifically tested, psychic mediums such as John Edward, James Van Praagh, Sylvia Browne, and…

Does Goodness Always Prevail?

Many of the morals and principles that we live by throughout our life were ingrained in us by our parents when we were young.  Among other things, parents are largely responsible for building the character of their children.  They are our role models.  Children are sponges—they absorb all that they see, hear, and feel. …

Purity is in the Eye of the Beholder

The Quaker artist Edward Hicks is well known among the Religious Society of Friends, but less so among others. Though an adept and respected minister in his own faith, it is for his series of paintings that he is now largely remembered. The reverse was true in his own lifetime. One often considers folk artists like Hicks either charmingly… Continue

Moving Past, Moving On

My time in Mobile was short lived, but I am new- listening, breathing in the experiences of a dwindling youth. Those people got to me in ways I didn't think were possible and I have come back with many new ideas.

My family and new friends have shown and taught me things that I don't think they realized they did, which puts a smile on my face and makes me look at them with new eyes. I have also discovered some things on my own, due to excessive travel hours that were spent- for the most… Continue
