A Day in the Life of author James Mace

A Day in the Life of author James Mace

Though I make a comfortable living as an author, my daily life may not be quite what one envisions when they think of the stereotypical writer. I do live by myself in a decent house; however, while it is commonly thought that authors are introverted and sometimes reclusive by nature, I find that I am the exact opposite. A friend told me once that he cannot believe I’m a writer, because I’m the most outgoing person he…

Do I Have To Carpe Diem Today?

Go on - take at your Pinterest board, at the magnets on your fridge, at the coffee mugs replicating like rabbits in your cupboard: I reckon there is at least one version of Carpe Diem in the lot. Scattered about in forms tangible and virtual are quotes admonishing you to live life to fullest, every day, for you never know when it may be your last. Me? I've got Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever ~ Mahatma Gandhi tacked…

A Shocking Book Review

I HATE EVERYBODY… STARTING WITH ME: A SHOCKING BOOK REVIEW

Joan Rivers is a woman whose comfort zone is being outrageous. What reviewer in her fifties wouldn’t find that at least a little bit appealing? Growing up female in the middle of the last century, we were socialized to be nice, to be kind, to be supportive, and above all, not to make waves. There’s something compelling about a woman who took none of that to heart, whose basic attitude is “screw kindness” and who, instead,…

'Lectronic Love

My baby sister is here from the East coast for a visit.

The best of times.

She has a job which requires her to be on her feet.

And she has a sprained ankle.

The worst of times.

But the story of her ankle has a hilarious twist.

If you'll pardon the pun . . .

Baby…

Cattle Shows, Cookies and Cutlets - or - Me and My Big Mouth

What can I say but mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . .

My Dad taught me manners.

I was a slow, but well-fed, learner.

Maybe I should explain . . .

Dad and I were on a cattle show tour.

I say, 'we' but I was mostly useless.

I had injured my hand in a grooming accident…

The Great and Godly Game of Hide and Seek

Why is it we all seem to struggle so?  Why so much dissatisfaction? We never seem quite satisfied with who we are, with what life brings, with where we are in ourselves.  It’s almost as if, were we satisfied, we fear there’d be no more reason for us to live; as if the Creator might descend on some big burst of light and pluck us straight away:

“This one’s done! Beam him up, Scotty.”

I’ve had that bizarre fear myself, the fear that if I allow myself to feel satisfied, happy…

Shy

I leaned next to a beam like I normally do when I'm out to see a local show but Lisa and her gay friend kept poking me in the back and not letting me be a wallflower.  That's what you do at concerts.  You don't acutally dance at these ones.  Alex2 is married to this Indian lady and when he visited there for the first time he got a hard-on from her 13 year-old neice who sat on his lap and leaned back against his chest.  Alex2 goes to the Eden Lounge and flirts with ladies till he…

Confessions of an MMORPG Widow

Christmas has come and gone and with that, all of the gift money my husband and I received has been spent.  I spent mine on a Kindle (the $79 one).  My husband spent his on an MMORPG.

I know you’re asking yourself what that conglomeration of letters stand for.  It stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game.   If you know someone who plays World of Warcraft, they are playing an MMORPG.

I have now become an MMORPG Widow.

My husband is a big geek who likes to…

Admiting to yourself that you're a writer

I am in a sticky, overwhelming, and frustrating position. I am a writer. However, I make my main living working in retail management and generate a decent amount of money each month as a Copy Writer. I do write for a living. And I mean that in the purest sense.

I am not however, anything else. I am not a retail manager. I have worked in retail since my teens, and outside of the three years I was a school teacher, it is the only thing I've been qualified to do "on paper" and…
