3 Steps to Creating an Effective Fundraising Campaign

Creating a school fundraiser can be challenging, and it can even sometimes become a hassle. A lot of work goes into planning and creating an effective school fundraising campaign. Not only do you need to consider the amount of work and volunteer effort required, you also have to consider operating costs. If not planned correctly, your fundraiser can quickly become too labor-intensive, too costly, and it can fail. However, thanks to social media and the Internet, long, drawn out school…

Ever Do The Thing You Do Not Want to Do?

Do you ever do the thing you do not want to do?
For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.”
Romans 7:19
Have you ever really blown it with your kids, your spouse, a friend, even a stranger? Said things you hadn’t meant to say? Got on a roll and felt like you couldn’t stop yourself? Most of us experience this at least a few times in our…

What's Your One Word for the New Year?

What’s Your One Word?

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34

I was getting one of those blinking neon sign messages. You know the kind—the same message over and over, everywhere you turn. Eventually, you realize you have to pay attention.

That’s the way it was for me with this idea: Choose just One Word for the New Year. I read through a number of emails and…

Kids, Chores & Popcorn Friday

There was a little throwdown at Popcorn Friday at the elementary school last week. Somehow, with five moms and one dad huddled around a popcorn maker and 400 brown bags of kernels popped, the subject of being so busy they don’t even have time to clean the house came up.

And one mom pointed out that Stephanie – the brunette holding a shaker of Ranch flavoring in her hand - did not mop her kitchen floor.

A little sigh of relief went through the group.

Then came the…

Patti Smith, Just Kids, and I Ride the Bus

Last Saturday, I had one of those jittery, jumping, monkey-mind mornings—the kind that sometimes happen when the machine is on and the shiny buttons beckon. Click on tweets, click on Facebook, click on tweets, click on Facebook, click on email, click on news, click on email, back to news—and even though I felt myself… Continue

Camp Twitch and Shout Family Weekend 2010

Camp Twitch and Shout Family Weekend 2010

In the cafeteria at Camp Twitch and Shout

We just got back from our second annual Camp Twitch and Shout Family Weekend at Camp Twin Lakes in Winder, GA. And just like last year’s weekend this one was equally inspiring.

Over the past 6 years, I have had the fortune of meeting so many families whose lives have been touched by Tourette Syndrome.

There were several… Continue

Children do NOT keep you young!! (this was published in More Mag this week. Nice!)

“Children keep you young” is quite possibly the biggest lie told to parents in the history of parenthood. Right up there using leather belts on kids will somehow discipline them in a good way!

First, the facts. Carrying a child, sucks out all of your nutrients, leeches your gums, ruins your breasts, mottles your once lovely skin tone and adds a layer of fat to your stomach that simply will never go away unless, of course, you go the surgical route.

On a mental health… Continue
