We are dimished by every broken heart

As many of you know, both my brothers died by suicide, and so, whenever I turn on the news and hear a report of another life being lost to despair and hopelessness, the little shard of ice in my chest which never quite melts, twists a little.

Road-tripping. With Dogs.

In two more days, I leave Sheridan, Wyoming, heading south to Rockport, Texas.

I've become a snowbird now. Part of the year in Sheridan, the rest in Rockport where I lived 10 years before I became a Sheridanite.

Texas is home - land of my birth (in Tyler, Aug. 18, 1947). But so is Wyoming by virtue of having lived full-time in Sheridan for more than 20 years before the call of family - and the pain of shoveling winter snow - drove me south again.
