Birth

“ I don’t normally like to do this over the phone…but, your biopsy came back.  I’m sorry, you have breast cancer.

And with one phone call, a new life began.

Swirling Parallels

It always seems to start with a phone call.

This time the call came during dinner preparation, a pot roast simmering in the oven with a pile of carrots and potatoes to peel.  As the phone rang, I glanced distractedly at the caller ID.  I didn’t want to answer.  I didn’t want to answer because I had carrot juice on my hands.  I didn’t want to answer because I knew who was calling.

If Your Recession Dreams Could Talk...

Since the beginning of recorded history cave drawings show us humans dream about things that we grapple with in our waking lives. While our Neanderthal brothers and sisters dreamed of being driven from their caves by a slobbering T-rex, many modern humans dream about getting chased from their homes by a sinister lending institution.

Since the recession began, 8.5 million jobs have been lost, an unemployment rate of 9.4%, (12.4% in my home…

Inception Proves Nighttime Dreams are More than just Pillow Talk

On a muggy afternoon in Central Illinois, accompanied by my husband and his mother (who we were there to visit), I (along with half of America), went to see the film I've been anticipating all summer: "Inception", Chris Nolan's cinematic masterpiece that so far boasts 142.8 million dollars in box office sales (200 million is predicted by summer's end).

My mother-in-law, bless her heart, hated the movie (with a passion). She snarled in disapproval and through gritted teeth… Continue

What If?

When I think about sustainable happiness I feel a rebellious part of me say, what if I don’t want to be happy? What if being happy all the time means letting go of being real, genuine, and authentic? I don’t want to be one of those fake happy people…and you can’t make me!

Hmmm, my higher self re-calibrates to respond to my text messaging, gum smacking inner teenager:

What if the essence of happiness is your natural state?

What if happiness is what we humans…

What's wrong with my son? Part I

My youngest son was born 10 weeks premature. I was told it was normal to be developmentally delayed the first year. However something never seems quite right. At age 2, he still wasn’t talking. I had him tested numerous times for hearing loss. That wasn’t the cause. Our local school district started providing speech therapy. He started talking by the time he was 3.

Several other developmental delays were still evident. As well as sever sensitivity to stimuli of any type; noises,… Continue
