Uncomfortable issues with Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000 and Windows 7

Now I remember why Microsoft annoys me. I've spent the last several days arguing with my keyboard, which my computer decided not to "see" at random intervals, usually when I was in the middle of typing something. Talk about frustrating! What follows is a brief synopsis of my recent adventure offered in hopes of helping anyone else experiencing similar issues with their microsoft keyboard.

I should mention that neither the computer nor the keyboard is very old (computer less than a…

Women, Binders, and Romney: Women's Humor Unbound!

Women, politics and office products: this is a fabulous combination, as we can see from the terrific women's comedy produced by real women about a real politician's—Mitt Romney’s—remarks from the last debate.

Gawd I Hope I Get It

Let me start with a truly shocking admission. Ready? Okay. I was not cast as one of the dancers in “Richard Simmon’s Sweatin (no g) to the Oldies #4: Disco Sweat. If you saw me you would think “That woman was born, born, born to be in Disco Sweat.” And you would be absolutely correct. Although since I’m a lady “Disco Glow” might be a more appropriate title. But I guess that’s neither here nor there, for even though I did an amazing audition, I was not…

Why Must We Completely Re-Invent Ourselves?

I am feeling very inadequate.  While I have recently, at the age of 55, moved to a new city and a house, completed a new novel, and said good-bye to my last child as she heads off to college; while I have, in the past six years ended two marriages and started a new relationship, I have not, for example: climbed a mountain, alone, started a cupcake business, left my job and devoted myself to volunteer work.  Nor have I overcome a huge and debilitating illness.  I have not moved to a…

Please Welcome Guest Blogger Sandra Humphrey, Author of Hot Issues, Cool Choices

A Good Fit: Defying Gravity

Today, something happened that has never happened to me before: I found 8 (yes eight!) adorable, comfortable and supportive bras that fit me.

Any sized breast can appreciate the utter hell that is shopping for a bra, the pain of which is only surpassed by child birth and shopping for a swimsuit. As a teenager, my well-meaning mother would drag me to Nordstrom's to be properly fit for a bra, only to find out that they "don't really carry bras in that size" and if they did happen…

Learn How to Be 40+ and Fabulous!

Review by Lauren S. Smith

Sondra Wright has written a book that's not only for women, but also for the men who love them. 40+ and Fabulous: Moving Forward Fierce, Focused, and Full of Life!, is a book that every woman nearing 40, over forty - or way over 40 can use to find ways to reinvent herself.

Midlife comes as a shock to some women, especially those who have depended on their beauty to open doors and…

King Day a Golden Prompt for Writers

Martin Luther King Jr. Day and his legacy are a writer’s dream because of the controversy, the spiritual quests, the meaning or myths, and the wide spread accomplishments for all people. We quote his powerful quotes that fulfill our spirit, and we relish the magnificent triumphs, and we’re proud of his leadership. For every King Day, we’ve celebrated with the King family, with citizens around the country, and with memories of his poignant messages. We replay historical movies…

Safety Issues in a Medical Laboratory

Clinical Laboratories where bodily fluids are tested can be hazardous to the technicians who carry out the procedures.

Many people have entered laboratories to give urine, blood, stool or other bodily fluid specimens. Not so many people have actually been in the room where they do autopsies on those who died from many different causes - the morgue.

Most laboratories have a room designated as the morgue. If family members want to know why their loved one died, an autopsy… Continue

The Beef Jerky Crisis

As I lay here watching the end of The Tudors, a stick of beef jerky catches my eye. A little kid came by earlier selling the jerky for a dollar to raise money for his church. I decided to be kind and donate the buck. Well, that purchase has haunted me, for I got the idea in my head that somehow it is poisoned. That someone, maybe the boy's father stuck a syringe filled with an awful substance through the protective wrapping, stabbing the meat. This thought is bugging the hell out of me. On one… Continue
