An Interview with Adlai Stevenson III, Part Three: Religion in American Life

While in the midst of a discussion about the vast unchecked growth of the military, the subject of religion entered our interview. While on the subject, I mentioned that I am a Quaker, and opposed to the very existence of a military. We then began to chat briefly about the connection between church membership and political allegiance. Senator… Continue

A Feminist Creation Story

Author's Note:

This is a loving parody, not to be taken too seriously. I myself identify as Feminist, but I wanted to try my hand at satire. It is Friday, after all. Apologies are due to God, Moses, or whomever compiled the original text of Genesis.

In the beginning, God had a good idea. This idea was brought to life specifically so that all might be more equal and that basic prejudices might be… Continue

Summer Camp for Radical Leftists

One of the most brilliant people is O’Daniel, who makes constant, highly distracting head bobs up and down. It's a nervous habit, I think, because he doesn't wear the green shirt of the Anti-Abelism League. One tries to ignore it altogether, but it's very difficult. A rumor surrounds camp that he was born autistic. In actuality, he prefers to bark at you that he is not actually autistic, whether you ask it or not. Soon he tells you, whether you'd like it or not, that he has significant… Continue

Spreading the Lessons Learned Inside the Liberal Bubble

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak informally at length with several college-aged young adults. Most were at least a decade or so younger than me, and it was interesting to compare how a younger generation's perspective was both different and similar to that of my own. We covered a wide variety of subjects in a relatively short period of time, but one particularly interesting discussion grabbed my attention. To some extent, it… Continue

We live in interesting times - FAIR VOTES NOW

Over 1000 people campaigned outside Liberal Democrat headquarters today to protest in support of electoral reform. They had marched from Parliament Square to deliver a petition to Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg. The petition is signed by 30,000 people and states:

“This Parliament does not represent us.

We demand fair votes now.

There must never again be an election under this broken system.”

I’m voting Liberal Democrat in the General Election

If you want your voice heard in British politics I recommend you vote Lib Dem too!

Why? I strongly believe that the First-Past-The-Post system is unfair, outdated and unrepresentative of the current state of public opinion in Great Britain. I don’t believe the power struggles between the same 2 parties allows them to be capable of hearing your (or my) voice. Only reform to a more proportional system which better represents the wide range of opinions in the country will enable… Continue
