Crystal Clear

The icicles hung

on the branches of the crape

myrtle, its double

 

jointed trunk slightly

bent—an oracle frozen

in mid-sentence.

 

I nuzzle my nose

against each of them, staring

at often, overlooked

 

slices of living,

finally understanding

the value within them.

I was talking with a man recently who’d been caring for his dying father.
