Gardening With Toddlers

It seemed a good idea, I thought

                Some hours in the yard.
The winter months had been so long
And I felt the need of working…

A Sonnet

Thou art to me as the gentlest breeze

Composed of warmest breath and tender sigh.

Though rocky storms may quake the weak man’s ease

When warmest breezes toward December fly,

When all too fast the life of Zephyrs end,

And daunted, a man’s dreams to dust return,

Then all the promise of spring can’t bend

His eye to see that sunlight ere returns.

But thy wilt young forever be,

Thy strength and soft affection so combined

To keep…

Spring Cleaning with Word Press

I thought some of you might be interested in how I'm using WordPress to help me with my "spring cleaning".

Okay, so it's not exactly Spring, but I've been putting off this project for years, not just months and I can't let a little hot weather get in my way now.

The Problem

I have all these files on my computer: photos, journals, bits and pieces of stories and story ideas, school papers, scans of payroll stubs and tax returns, and who knows what…

Rededicating Yourself to Writing This Summer: Spring Cleaning for Your Writing Life, Part 3

Dedicate v. 1. To set apart for a special use. 2. To commit (oneself) to a course of action. 3. To address or inscribe (e.g., a literary work) to someone.  (Webster’s II New Riverside Dictionary, 2nd ed)

Spring possibilities are about to cede to summer pleasures. I’ve been ruminating on the importance of spring cleaning for your writing life and have covered the first two…

Election Day, Revolution Blues, and a Bitter Coffee

I never thought the day would come when a year and a half after the revolution people would be rushing to the polls to elect a new president while I sit home and sip my coffee. I have to say that coffee never tasted so bitter.

On May 23 I went down and I voted for president. I was skeptical of those who chose the boycott. Yes the system was imperfect, but here was a chance and we had to grab it. I was full of hope and overwhelmed with memories of everything that we went through… Continue

Spring Cleaning for Your Writing Life, Part 2

A few weeks ago I began a series on spring cleaning for your writing life. There are three steps in the process:

1) You reassess your space, your schedule, and patterns of mind to see…

I Voted for President. It Made Me Remember

No sleep. I toss and turn. I send out a tweet. A buddy in Australia sends me back another tweet. “Get some sleep for at least a couple of hours,” but he knows I probably can’t even if I tried to. This was not supposed to be like this. I was relaxed all along the presidential campaigns. I knew that they would be far from perfect under the rule of the military junta, but I also knew that there was no way out of them if we were to come out of the impasse we’re in.

We’ve gone down…

#Brain Tumor Thursday

So I have volunteered to write about brain tumor patients and survivors to raise awareness.  There is an ongoing awareness campaign over on Twitter called "Brain Tumor Thursday."  It happens every Thursday on Twitter.  Just put in the hash tag #braintumorthursday.  There is great information, support, stories, and articles being shared from…

Beds, Bob, Giveaways and Spring

Spring started off with a bang: sneezing, a good-bye, and Bob Marley. All of it has given me this odd sense of hope.

The past month I’ve been sniffling and sneezing like crazy because of my allergies. My eyes are red, I’m using Kleenex like there’s no tomorrow, popping benadryls and generic allegras. It does make you want to go to a beautiful pink tree and shake your fist. “Damn your beauty!”

I’ve shared before that my bed was falling…

Planting & Nurturing My Gardens

PLANTING MY GARDEN ... The Vegetable Kind

I'm so excited! Spring Equinox is only 10 days away - Daylight savings has sprung forward, and we are fast approaching that day of equal day and night before racing towards the Summer Solstice. My fingers are itchy to get back in the soil and I would say that Spring has been teasing forever, but I think we just plain skipped Winter this year.   Even as I look out my office window, what is termed by the national weather service…
