Tallit Shopping by Judy Bolton-Fasman

I’ll gloss over the bromides. The ones like: “Time goes by so quickly,” or “I remember his birth like it was yesterday.” Adam has just turned 13. He’ll try to live up to the expectations of a bar mitzvah. He’ll also need some key accessories. I think it’s fair to defer expectations for a boy who won’t actually be a man for a few more years.

Anna and her grandmother bought Anna’s tallit together in Jerusalem at a store on the Cardo – a piece of Byzantine road defined by original Roman… Continue

Home Scar by Judy Bolton-Fasman

Two decades ago Elisabeth Tova Bailey was stricken with a mysterious virus that left her bed-ridden for as many years. She’s recently published an affecting memoir, “The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating,” recalling one of those years during which she ardently followed the small, determined movements of a snail living large in a flowerpot by her bed.

Rude People by Judy Bolton-Fasman

To Amy Alkon, rudeness has reached epidemic proportions. The author of a witty syndicated advice column called “The Advice Goddess,” she’s also written a new book called “I See Rude People Everywhere.”

Turns out that the self-described advice goddess also has a touch of the revenge goddess in her. She has the chutzpah I used to have, until I decided it was too frustrating and, frankly, just plain useless to hold up a mirror to people who can’t see themselves anyway.

Alkon… Continue
