Dave Barry's Writing Technique:

"Get coffee. Stare at the screen. Write a bunch of things that aren't any good. Then comes that moment when I'll say, 'That's still not any good.'"

The quote comes from a wonderful interview in this morning's NYT Magazine. Lots of funny stuff in the interview, but I fear this particular bit is dead serious.

Although he misses one step: Get more coffee. And the afternoon version: Get chocolate. - Meg

The get chocolate part is the most important! I do that, a lot.

I love Dave Barry...When I started my magazine, I sent a copy to him, just because I love him so much :)and to his credit, he wrote a very kind note back. I truly think he gets that perfect tone you must hit in humor...he's *right* dead right, most of the time, and it can't help but make me laugh. And, again, with this snippet...it is so true...so very true...just knowing that the best of the best feel this way about their writing helps a bit to keep trying : ) Thanks for sharing!
