The new digs. I've just signed a 6-month lease to rent a micro-office nestled in an Eastside advertising agency. Despite the blue, blue, blue of the picture, the space is light and bright and filled with warmth and free bullets of espresso. (Not to mention feminine protection products in a tasteful box in the Ladies'.)
This is the third space I've occupied since officially hanging a shingle as a freelancer, and the first space that is truly my very own. Really! This is my first unshared piece of real estate in my entire life. I'm sitting here, alone, feeling the warmth of a hot summer sun setting through the window to my left, and typing slightly self-consciously--unsure, exactly, how to bask in this good fortune. I feel somewhat giddy. A bit unworthy. Though mostly gleeful.

A Room of One's Own . . . What a dream, Suzy. I love it. I generally use my lap as my office. I wish you happiness and creativity in your new space. You inspire me.

Thanks for the comments, ladies! And, yes, a collage of collective writing spaces, be they in bed beside a snoring husband, in the car while the kids are napping, in a converted chicken coop or on the kitchen table--would be lovely to see!

I love the photo and that you shared an image of your writing space-- something I think would be fun to do for the group on SHE WRITES. It is amazing how precious a quiet, dedicated space to write in can be. Glad you are here and welcome...

warm best

Congratulations on your new prime realestate! Truly awesome! I'm a stay at home mom of an almost three-year-old...I have no space of my own...not even during rest room breaks. At this moment I'm sitting in bed, husband snoring beside me, my back and neck are cramping but hey, it's late and the little one's asleep and so here I am. I must admit I'm a wee envious of your space but it's a healthy envy :) A Room Of Ones Own is one of my favorites books and Virginia Woolf nailed it on the head when she said it was a need for all women!
Thanks for sharing and letting me glimps into maybe my not so far away future, ahhh, a space of my own.
