Days remaining to publication date – 1 (!)
The Happiness Project is an account of the year I spent testing the wisdom of the ages, the current scientific studies, and the lessons from popular culture about how to be happier. This is my fourth book (or my fifth book, if you include a book I did in collaboration with an artist).
Yippeee, I got a starred review from
Publishers Weekly! Okay, I couldn’t help myself. Now that
that’s off my chest…
It seemed like this day would never come. Tomorrow is the pub date for
The Happiness Project.
I’ve thrown away the huge stack of marked-up manuscripts that I kept in a corner. I’ve crossed off all the months on my two-year countdown-to-publication calendar. I’ve deleted many of the now-unnecessary files that clogged up the “Happiness Project” folder on my computer.
What’s done is done. I can’t edit anymore. I can’t urge people to
pre-order anymore. I can’t contact any more of my journalist connections. It’s a relief to be at this stage.
Of course, I still have a long to-do list. I’m writing my
blog. I’m urging people to sign up for the
2010 Happiness Challenge, to make 2010 a happier year. I’m spreading the word about my
book tour (if you live in NYC, please come to the B&N on 86th and Lex on January 7 or to the 92nd Street Y on February 9). I’m doing whatever I can do to help raise awareness of the book online. I’m eagerly cooperating with any press that comes my way.
But for the most part, everything is finished.
I comfort myself with the realization that no matter what happens with the book at this point, for good or for ill, I had a vision for what I wanted to write, and I did it. I feel incredibly fortunate that I was able to spend the time the way I did, and to write the book that I got to write, and
now it’s done.
And that makes me very happy.
