Regardless of what type of business you run, being able to accept credit card payments is almost inevitable. While some smaller businesses may be able to get away with accepting cash and check only, most businesses need credit card payment processing abilities so that they can compete with bigger companies. While you may have the ability to scan credit cards in your place of business, what do you do if you need to accept a payment outside of the office? Thanks to advancements in technology you can actually accept payments through mobile devices now. If you are interested in being able to accept payments while you are on the go, here are three mobile payment companies that you may want to check out. These tips are collated by the team at We Know Money, a website about credit cards with lots of help about getting the right one for your personal financial situation.
1. Square
Square is one of the most well-known mobile payment processing companies in the industry. With Square, you get an attachment that hooks up directly to your smartphone. When you want to accept the credit card payment, you simply need to swipe the card through the card reader. The Square app on your phone will then transmit the payment information over a secure PCI compliant connection. If you don't want to scan the credit card, you can also enter the credit card information into the smartphone interface. Once you have completed the transaction, the Square app gives you the option of sending an email receipt to your customer as well.
The nice thing about using Square is that it simply charges you a flat 2.75 percent discount rate on every type of credit card that you run. This is cheaper than a lot of the other payment processors out there and it is also easier to keep up with. You don't have to worry about monthly minimum charges or any other transaction fees.
2. GoPayment
GoPayment is another mobile payment processing company that is similar to Square. GoPayment is the payment processing solution offered by Intuit. Intuit is a well-known company that also came out with QuickBooks and Quicken. One of the attractive things about GoPayment is that you can get started completely for free. You can download the app for free and then get a free card reader sent to you. You simply plug the card reader into the top of your smartphone and then you can start swiping credit cards. Like Square, you also do not have to pay any monthly fees or make any commitments. You just get the card reader and the app, and then you can use it whenever you want.
3. Aircharge
Aircharge is a mobile payment processing company that works in much the same way as the other two, with a few key differences. With Aircharge, you get a device that connects to your phone and it can actually print out a receipt right there when you run a card. When you run a charge, you also get to take advantage of real-time batching with this program. While this program does offer different hardware, you have to pay for it. In fact, one of the most popular units for smartphones costs $395. This means that you will have to invest quite a bit more than you do with the Square or GoPayment program. The hardware that you buy does come with a one-year warranty on parts and labor, which means you won't have to worry about paying for repairs on it.
