A great piece about launching a book in today's publishing climate

I had to share this piece from The Nervous Breakdown by Marie Mutsuki Mockett. I thought it really nailed how confusing it can be to launch a book when you are not a "name brand" writer.

The Nervous Breakdown is a godsend. It's true that the toughest time to get reviewed has got to be the Fall, as that is traditionally when publishers like to go out with their big guns blazing. Then you get a couple of Holiday roundups, but often those are dedicated to the celeb and coffee table books. But the author is right that there is so little media attention paid to books that it's a miracle anything gets to "break out" no matter what time of year. I think the answer really does lie in these online communities. We are the readers and the writers, so that means we have to also be the book buyers. Vote with your wallet when you can, and even if you can't buy a new book, read what you can and write an online review.
