Hi everybody! I just wanted to connect with anyone who will be at AWP next week in Chicago. (For those of you who don't know, AWP stands for Associated Writers' Programs, and every year the meeting features lots of terrific programming dedicated to writers and writing.) She Writes will be co-hosting a reception on Saturday, March 3rd at the Women-Made Gal..., an ALL She Writers (whether you are attending AWP or not) are invited. I'd also like to put together a calendar of She Writers panels at AWP so we can all have a quick and easy reference to help us support each other!

The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House: Organizations Supporting Women in the Literary Arts

Female and male authors alike are encouraged to join us for a conversation between founders and directors representing a variety of women’s literary organizations: VIDA: Women in Literary Arts, A Room of Her Own, She Writes, the Kentucky Womens Writers Conference, and the Women’s Review of Books. Presenters will discuss their respective and shared missions to foster the production of women’s writing and challenge its critical reception in our current literary culture.
The reception, co-hosted by She Writes along with the organizations listed above for the panel discussion, will be Saturday March 3rd. For details click here. I'd love to see She Writers there!

What is too much? What about that book trailer? What considerations and issues should we authors and writers reflect on as we negotiate these new ways of connecting and communicating? Is ignoring all of this an option? What is the downside?

It's happening at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 1. I would love to meet some SheWriters there and at other events! Here's more info:

In its seventh year, PP juggles a long-standing mission of culture-specific work with the need for regular reinvention. This discussion touches on issues of race and authenticity, cultural production and ownership, as well as community outreach and institutional integrity. In other words, it can get heated.

This year, Woman Made Gallery celebrates 20 years of supporting the creative endeavors of women around the world. Literature has been prominently featured among gallery programs, including poetry readings, often organized around the themes of the concurrent art exhibit. Honoring Women’s History Month, we bring together five seasoned poets with distinctive voices, vision and presence: Kim Addonizio, Brenda Cardenas, Nina Corwin, Patricia Spears Jones and Patricia Smith.
