My poem, "Barchester's Ghosts, or The Supernatural Demise of Archdeacon Haynes", is my attempt to answer a dare to write a poem about Noel ghosts. (The details about the dare are at the end of the post.) It also is my first try at writing a ghost story, in verse or otherwise. I wrote the poem, which has its origins in an very old short story by M.R. James, in couplets, using no more than three and one words per line.

Thank you for your comment, Kathy. The effort was entirely experimental, extremely arbitrary in form (deliberately), and altogether just for fun, as part of our Random Acts of Poetry group's periodic prompt and response event. It's not something I have serious intention to do anything with.

Shorter poems work well in that format; not so sure if it helps this piece all that much. The suspense loses its momentum a little over half way into part 2, and that's about where you lose my attention... after the word "cursed." Albeit, after reading other comments on the blog site, I read more, to the end, and certainly acknowledge the painstaking thought you had to have employed to produce such a work! But... I still conclude it may not be the *best* format for such a lengthy piece:~)
