Some day She Writes will organize a conference, but until then, we are thrilled to be a part of the next best thing -- BlogHer's first-ever conference for writers, in New York City on October 21st. BlogHer's annual conferences are incredibly professional, impeccably run, and always well-worth attending, and we know BlogHer Writers '11 will be the same.
Why go? While all know that writers really need community and support, we also know that they need access to experts and the invaluable guidance of those who have gone before them. All of that and more will be available during this day-long conference -- presented by the Penguin group, so you know you are in excellent company -- where well-known authors (think ANNE NAPOLITANO and our own CARLEEN BRICE), literary agents (like KATE LEE from ICM), top publicists (as ever, we heart you LAUREN CERAND) and acquiring editors from Penguin, including the Executive Editor of Viking, will all be in one place, at one time, exclusively to help you take your writing career wherever you want it to go.
We especially love the small group "mentoring sessions", where attendees will have the chance to meet for 90 minutes in a small group led by an advanced professional in the field, to focus their vision and identify next steps. Part coaching session, part networking session, all custom-tuned to the needs and questions attendees bring to the table.
Groups include:
- Seeking fiction agent
- Seeking nonfiction agent
- Seeking help with a book proposal
- Memoir group
- Literary novel group
- Genre novel group (romance/mystery/thriller/scifi, etc.)
- Children’s (YA/middle grade/picture book)
- Humor/novelty (ex: LOLcats/Cake Wrecks, etc.)
- Cookbooks
- Shorter works/anthologies
- Expert platform nonfiction
And last but not least, She Writes Founder KAMY WICOFF will be there, joining author Angela Tung (author of My Tiger Mom & Me), Penguin Digital Product Manager Katherine McCahill, and Penguin Property Developer Peter Harris to discuss "Alternative Publishing: It's Not Only About The Printed Hardback."
And last but not least, She Writers can REGISTER NOW with a discount just for our community!

Comment by Cat von Hassel-Davies on September 28, 2011 at 8:36pm Does anyone else plan on attending? I think I'm going to attend. Well check things out more in the morning. Thanks for posting this!
How about sharing a room. I don't mind sharing with strangers. I am a non-smoker and use a CPAP at night so no snoring on this end.
Hugs!!
