I am a writer and my literary agent is working on selling my book. (Yes please, I'd appreciate crossed fingers and tiny prayers as you read the remainder of this entry.) I think it's important for writers, aspiring authors, and anybody who loves books to actually attend book events for others.  I've been part of many celebrations, readings, and book launches for my critique partners and other writing pals as well as visiting authors in my community--and beyond.  Not only are these events fun and inspiring, I also figure that I've got a pretty good bank of "book karma" stored up for when (notice I said when, not if) my book is launched.  The idea of an author I admire or care about standing at a lectern in an empty bookstore just breaks my heart. So I'm there...and I bring friends.
