According to a 1998 report by the Department of Justice on the National Violence Against Women Survey: 1,510,455 women and 834,732 men are victims of physical violence by a partner. This means that every 37.8 seconds, somewhere in America a man is battered and every 20.9 seconds, somewhere in America a woman is battered.
We often hear the horror stories of women who are abused by their partners; however, it is very seldom that we hear about men who are battered by women--most likely because men don't report it; they're too embarrassed. Therefore, I would take an educated guess and say that the statistics of abused men are much higher than indicated.
No matter whether male of female…Abuse is never okay!
In my recent book “Tragic Love” I share personal details of a young man who becomes involved in a forbidden relationship. The young lady had been a victim herself of abuse and suffered with mental issues and other anxieties.
From the very beginning the family recognizes the signs and attempts to tell the young man to get out of the relationship.
Two weeks after the young man moves in with is girlfriend-- tragedy strikes under very strange and unusual circumstances; the young man succumbs to an untimely death.
If you are in an abusive relationship – GET OUT! Don’t become a statistic of death. There are many organizations that you can reach out to for help.
