DIVINITY OF THE AUNTS

Never did you go to Tib’s house
That she didn’t have a pound cake.
And divinity candy.
Dropped from a spoon,
Soft clouds to bite into, with nuts.

As opposed to Bon’s house where
Divinity was spread like fudge
And cut in squares, with no nuts;
I think they got under Bill’s dentures.
Tib never missed a chance to point
Out the difference. Did she know
We liked hers best? Did she want us
To say so? We felt it, but kept quiet while we
Ate the candy made for an old man.

Bon just smiled.
