Just a pretty picture... (Fall foliage on the Kangamangus Highway in New Hampshire)

Glad to have found this site.  I am working on my thesis right now.  I am in the process of revising and restructuring it.  It is called, "Motherhood -- The New Frontier."  It has been frustrating to have to edit and revise and edit and revise.  It is part of the process.

Anyway, that is my current writing responsibility.  The thesis has sucked all my energy.  I will graduate this December with a Master's in Creative Writing.  I will then defend my thesis in January.

Good luck to you all with your writing.  May the muse be with you.  I look forward to getting to know you on this site.

What is my book about? Uggh, I'm still in the process of figuring that out. I started with a plot revolving around the friendship between a 10 year old boy and his teacher, but now it's becoming more character driven and I've got to figure out what the main themes are and play them out. So I'm not quite ready to say what it's really about!

Jessica,

I hear ya about quitting your job at the wrong time.  I quit mine to stay at home with my baby.  It will be about a year since I did.  I actually thought 40 hours of time would open up. Ha!  Being a stay at home mom is hard!  What is your book about?  I got really bored at home too.  My thesis talks about this and the isolation and the love that is big sometimes I feel I might explode.

Got it - I'm on my second child (she's 1) and I still feel like I'm on a new frontier. Some days (okay, many days) I feel like I'm too immature to be a mother! I want my time; I want to do what I want to do, etc.

I am a member of NCTE, though I don't participate much. I got my certification last year but found out I was pregnant and due in September--not great timing for asking for maternity leave on a new job! With all the layoffs and the realization I'll have to have a connection to get a job (plus, I'm trying to write my first novel), I'm being a bit of a slacker in finding a position.

Jessica,

I am a former teacher and I grew up in Chicago (Wheaton).  I saw you are a member of NCTE. Me too. I presented at the San Antonio conference a couple years back.

My thesis is a collection of creative nonfiction essays about motherhood. I don't really have a thesis question (there are many throughout the essays).  The New Frontier - it's my first time at this rodeo.  And it is damn hard sometimes.  So, it is a frontier to me.  Thanks for asking.  Back to torture time now.

Beautiful picture. Good luck with your thesis! Can you tell me what your argument is? Why is motherhood the new frontier?
