Hi Zetta,

I'm an author who is writing a how-to book about workplace memoirs. I've been doing tons of research on the topic which included information on book reviews. When I wanted my first book reviewed, I googled my topic and my contents (short stories about workplace memoirs) and began sending emails to any writers and readers that I thought might review it. I also googled book clubs with topics similar to mine. Midwest Reviews was another good place to find reviewers. Amazon was another place. Within Amazon's list of reviewers, when you profile a reviewer, you'll find links to book clubs and other places where you can send your books for reviewing too. I never tried the news media for book reviews, I used them for press releases but I think they would be worth a try. I sent a large number of books out to reviewers but received maybe 20% back as actual reviews so select your reviewers carefully. I have since learned that's about typical. One way to increase the number of reviews and buzz is to get experts in the topic of your book involved in your book from jumpstreet through the peer review process. Send them several chapters of the book and ask for their opinion of it. The experts you choose are usually quite happy to write a review of your book. Finally, I thought about paying for reviews but neither I nor my publisher wanted to spend the money for something we felt we could get for free.
