A friend recommended I watch the documentary "Half the Sky" yesterday. I brushed it off at first since I rarely have time to sit for a half hour in the evening for television lately and this was two hours. Fortunately, later that afternoon my thirteen year old daughter came home from school and asked me to watch it with her. Her class was offered extra credit if they watched it, but a parent needed to be with them. I said of course. Now, it was an assignment. Honestly, I hadn't read the book. I had only a vague idea of what to expect. I had some knowledge of issues of rape and abuse of women happening in war torn areas globally, but nothing prepared me for what we saw. I will never forget the images of those brave young women telling their stories.
I wrote a very short blog about "Half the Sky". More importantly I linked the blog to the movie site hoping more people would watch it. It is gut wrenching and left me in tears.
I hope you'll read, and click play when you have time. I don't think you will regret it.
