Tearing Down Walls in this weeks blog

A section of the Berlin Wall is on display in the Newseum, Washington. The wall was strong enough to stop tanks, but not secret communication. Words not weapons eventually lead to tearing down the wall. Picture taken by Manju.

from the novel TRIPLE B
Poem by Samantha Springs (age 13)
            Masked
            As a child,
Mom pulled out my true emotions.
“What happened? How are you feeling?” Mom asked.
“My tummy hurts and I’m sad.” I answered.
            As a teenager,
she stopped asking and I stopped answering.
“Is something wrong at home or school?” Mom doesn’t ask.
                                                “Nothing.” I don’t answer.

In my middle grade novel, TRIPLE B, lack of communication creates problems at home and school.
Samantha doesn't see the point in talking to her alcoholic father. Her Mom is building a wall of her own, leaving Samantha to fend for herself. And slamming into social walls in junior high is the norm. Whack!

This week, reach out to someone who needs help breaking down their wall.
