If only for a moment—
the autumn breeze that parts back
palm leaves on the scalps
of natural bark were your
fingertips. The marigolds
that sway up and down
along the sidewalk on green
stems of legs were your lean hips.
The wine-colored grapes
that dangle in arcs framing
vineyard wires while their leaves
flicker on their skin
were your mouth against my own.
If only for one moment—
The eyes of the bird
that mirror my reflection
when we hold each other’s gaze
were your irises.
The air that threads oxygen
through the earth’s ecosystem
was your past presence
in my mind, heart, soul
which is now like broken bonds
inside molecules.
If only for one moment.

Comment by Julie Luek on February 5, 2013 at 4:30pm I love that you are sharing your poetry. It's so lovely. I sighed. I wish I could make words sing like this.
