If You Would Do Me The Honor...I'd Be Very Grateful.
Not to be too blatant about it, but what the heck: if you ever wanted to say thanks for She Writes, I'd love it if you did in the form of a vote for me in The Women's Media Center's 2011 Social Media Award! The WMC, founded by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem in 2005 to make women visible and powerful in the media (with their work cut out for them to be sure), has nominated 27 women for it's 2011 Social Media Award, and somehow I am one of them. (I owe a huge debt of gratitude to DEBORAH SIEGEL, my founding partner in She Writes, for introducing me to so many of the women there.) They are doing it by vote, and my guess is that I don't stand a chance -- but in a good way, as the roster of women is pretty mind-blowingly awesome. Also my last name starts with W so I am almost last on the list. :) But if by some chance I were to get enough votes, I would get to shake hands with Wanda Sykes and hug Gloria Steinem at the awards dinner, and that would make a lot of the years and hours I've put into She Writes feel very worth it indeed.
So if you have a minute, give me a vote -- and tell everyone you know to do the same -- and I will feel loved! Win or lose. Don't we all need that sometimes?
I also have to say that I am so thrilled that so many of the other nominees are also She Writes members: check out FAYE ANDERSON, JOANNE BAMBERGER, DEANNA ZANDT, SHELBY KNOX, ARIELLE LOREN, AMANDA MARCOTTE, JEN NEDEAU, MIRIAM PEREZ, SOFIA QUINTERO, MELISSA SILVERSTEIN, and LISA STONE, and be sure to stop by their She Writes' pages and congratulate them. It's an honor, to be sure.
