Just a quick observation on distractions

Every morning I get up and go straight to the computer with the intention of working on my novel for two hours or 2000 words, whichever takes longer.

Yet many mornings I'm distracted before I even get started. I work from home and use Outlook to keep up with my clients and email and it's always up. Always. And I've begun to realize that if I don't shut it down at night, preferably at the end of the business day, but at least before I go to bed, it's SO very tempting to just real quick check my work email before I start writing. And that's never a good thing because work email always brings something distracting.

I'm vowing before all of you right now, I will shut down everything at the end of the day and wake up each morning to nothing more distracting than my desktop photo.

I will. Really.

Absolutely. Absolutely.

Well, what did you get done?

Amy, isn't redundancy great for doubling your word count? ;-)

OK, OK...I'm going to work. Sigh....

Well, I thought about it last night and did mean to shut it all down, but forgot again. This morning had Outlook and my accounting software open. Since both take forever to load, I hated to shut them down and have to open them back up in a few hours. So I just ignored them (can't tell you what will that took!) and opened up my manuscript. I deleted more words than I wrote, but did get past a stumbling block and am back to where I need to be with the plot. So, didn't increase the word count, but did spend two hours on it!

Good luck! I'm going to play for a few minutes then get back to my "real job." You should stop right now and go write something!! Just do it Rebecca!! :)

Let me know how it goes with you!

Let me know how you do.

Oh shoot—is today Monday? And here I am with my browser open, checking out Dooce and Huffington and SheWrites before MeWrites! I'll admit I'd forgotten my optimistic Friday a.m. pledge. Tuesday? No, wait, I'll start now. Or at 10:30. How'd you do?

Amen, sister friend. I'll take that vow with you. For at least one week. Starting Monday. Let's see how it goes.
