A Room of Her Own Just Got Bigger

Please join me at the beautiful Brooklyn Museum Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2pm for a conversation about Margaret Sanger's legacy and leadership lessons for today in honor of the birthday of Planned Parenthood's founder Margaret Sanger.

This photo of Margaret gagged is one of my favorite stories about her brilliant use of media for social justice--come to the lecture and find out why :-)
I'll discuss Sanger's life and work, the history of the birth-control movement, the role that birth control plays in women's equality and empowerment, and what activists today can learn about leadership from Sanger's organizing. I had the honor of wearing Margaret's mantle as former president of Planned Parenthood and often turned to her words and history for inspiration during the most challenging times. So I'm very excited to have this opportunity to share her leadership lessons through the lens of her life story. We'll talk about the movement today as well.

Margaret Sanger is a featured guest in The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago. If you haven't seen this magnificent installment at the Brooklyn Museum, it's worth the trip just to do that. Before or after my presentation of course...you'll understand why Margaret's plate is a flaming red vulva.

Where and when:
Brooklyn Museum's Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art Forum, 4th floor
Eastern Parkway (2/3 subway--directions and more information here)
Sunday, September 13, 2-4 p.m.

Since I write more of the romantic type of novels, looks are important for my characters. I come up with their look various ways. I envision what they should look like, and write their attributes down, or I use pictures of people I clip from magazin…

My cousin, Em, doesn't see it. She sees a plain face, limp hair, fat rolls, etc. But to me she's beautiful, and maybe I'm biased, but she's the most beautiful woman I've ever known or seen. It's because she's the sister I never had, my sister in Chr…
