Facebook is the hot topic around Palo Alto these days.
While Facebook might be a lot of things, it isn't female-heavy. There are NO women on the board, despite the fact that Sheryl Sandberg, the COO, is a woman who is vocal in supporting women's rights. Yet, she is not on the board of her own company. This seems to make no sense.
On the boards I have been on, members are supposed to provide at least one, and preferably all three, of the three" Ws," Work, Wealth, or Wisdom. Sandberg certainly provides Facebook with two Ws. So why isn't she on the board? My guess is that she has bigger targets in mind than Facebook, and she's just in it for the money.
I hope that is OK with Zuckerberg. It probably is, since it lets him be the BIG boss.
I watched a company with BIG boss prosper (Commodore) and another one fail (Atari) from the point of view of a girlfriend and wife. I had two boys, and my husband is one of three boys. So I'm very used to guys. And I've been watching the tech sector for as long as anyone.
I appreciate that the strength of Facebook is facilitating communication better than anyone else. That FB 'gets' the way people think more completely than Google 'gets' it.
So, Zuck, choose ME for your Facebook board, when you feel ready. You know that only 11.6% of the boards in the US are all male? And that the majority of Facebook users are women?
I won't challenge your status as boss, I run a meeting well, and am a very good timekeeper and secretary. I produce the fastest minutes in the West. My kids are out of the house, my book is almost finished, and even though I am going to be president of Congregation Etz Chayim next year, I could use a part-time job.
If you keep your interface simple enough for me to understand it, anyone in the world will be able to use it. I'll bike to work and take $1 a year in return for stock options and the privilege of using the cafeteria. I promise to cash out all my options every year and pay all my taxes.
How about it?
