We need more women in charge of publishing houses and women's presses. I may be a dinosaur, but in the 60s, many women's presses were formed and they published lots of great women writers. Now few of them exist, due to lack of money. As this Best of...series shows, feminism has proved to not be enough to get the reins of publishing in the hands of women. So it is time to reinvent the wheel and form our own companies again.

I like this idea, but lack the money or connections too. I know a lot of great women writers who simply don't get the exposure men do. Any one out there with money or connections?

PS--I just joined your Off the Beaten Path group. Are you in New York?

I'd love to start a press, in line with the aesthetics in my unconventional journal mad hatters' review. I could easily go the LULU POD route, but I'd rather not. Yes, money is the problem. Perhaps if a bunch of us formed a co-operative and we obtained non-profit status, we could make an attempt. But at least one of us would have to have connections to corporate and individual sponsors and donors, and one or more of the group would be in charge of writing grant proposals. I don't have the money or time to do this on my own.
